Unexpected

June 10, 2010

… that the Australian couple that stopped by yesterday would be such a pleasure. He was a volunteer surgeon in the refugee camps along the Cambodian-Thai border 27 years ago. His wife could not come to volunteer, because they had three small children at the time, but it’s clear that she was also deeply invested in his time here. They came back to see Cambodia now and to look for one family that he became especially close to.

They came with questions and humility, without any desire to fix or save. A welcome and unexpected grace in the middle of our afternoon.
