Things I learned in Khmer class today

October 7, 2009
  • otter
  • bruise
  • The pants are too big.
  • middle class
  • The grandchild carries wood on his shoulder.
  • poop
  • cake
  • Where does the butterfly perch?
  • Ducks cry “quack”
  • clock
  • Please don’t be violent.
  • Is this your cow?

So obviously the speed of my rising cultural competency is shocking.

I am Adrienne Zak’s professor for her Chinese politics course and she alerted me to your website. I am studying Khmer here at Cornell and absolutely LOVED this post. Maybe see you in Battambang…

Hi Professor, glad you enjoyed the post!
Wow, I can’t imagine trying to study Khmer outside of Cambodia… must be a real challenge. THe most I could do from the US was practice writing Khmer letters. You’re always welcome in Battambang, so please let me know if you’re ever in the area!
